A driver learns fastest on the hazard that is too dangerous to stage for real: a skid on a slick surface, a brake failure on a gradient, a blowout at speed, a night convoy in dust. On a real vehicle those lessons cost fuel, hours, wear and occasionally the vehicle. A driving simulator delivers them on demand and lets the trainee repeat them until the response is automatic. Inputs at a 1:1 replica cab — steering, pedals, gearshift, with control-loading for real feel — drive a real-time vehicle-dynamics model over a terrain database. The model returns motion, out-the-window visuals, instruments and sound, and the driver perceives and reacts exactly as in the vehicle.<\/p>\n
A 6-DOF motion platform, with six actuators and motion-cueing (washout) algorithms, reproduces acceleration, braking, pitch, roll and terrain feel so that what the body feels agrees with what the eyes see. Without motion, a driver learns to steer a picture; with it, they learn to drive a vehicle. Visuals come from an image generator with multi-channel wraparound projection or LED display giving 210 degrees or more of view, with day, night and weather.<\/p>\n
An instructor operating station authors terrain, weather, time of day and traffic, injects faults such as skid, brake failure or tyre burst on demand, and logs and scores every run, so assessment is objective and repeatable.<\/p>\n
