ERU119 · ERU120 Hook Proving / Ejection Release Unit Test Rig / MIL‑STD · ISO · IS Compliant / Noida · India
ERU119 · ERU120 HOOK PROVING RIG

Lock Loading Test Rig, proving ejection-release hooks to 63,000 lbf.

A self-contained test bench that hook-proves Ejection Release Units (ERU119 & ERU120) under sequential, horizontally-applied load. Custom pin-jointed fixtures protect the unit under test while LVDT displacement sensing and in-situ calibrated load cells drive an automatic OK/NG deformation verdict against pre-fed limits.

Overview

Hook load proving, without guesswork.

Ejection Release Units carry the load path between an aircraft and the stores it releases. Before an ERU119 or ERU120 is cleared for service, its hooks have to be proven under controlled, repeatable load — not estimated.

The Lock Loading Test Rig is a self-contained bench built to test both Ejection Release Unit types for Hook Proving Loads and load deformation. Each unit type — ERU119 and ERU120 — has an independent test bench, so a unit is never damaged by a fixture built for the other type's hook profile.

Loading is applied horizontally and sequentially through a custom-made fixture that is matched to the unit's own profile. Displacement is tracked by an LVDT with magnetic contact, while load cells on both benches carry an automatic in-situ calibration facility, so the rig re-verifies its own accuracy without being pulled off the floor for external calibration.

The result comes back as OK/NG — automatically — against pre-fed deformation and load settings.

Load per hook and ultimate load across both hooks are pre-programmed for each configuration, and the pin-jointed loading structure ensures the load is applied evenly across both hooks of the unit under test.

In Depth

The complete technical read.

Engineering narrative for defence procurement teams, MRO planners, and quality assurance officers evaluating the Lock Loading Test Rig before acquisition.

1. Introduction

The Lock Loading Test Rig is a precision test bench designed for hook proving load and load-deformation testing of Ejection Release Units ERU119 and ERU120. These units carry the physical hook interface between an aircraft and the stores it is required to release, so their hooks must be proven under repeatable, controlled load before the unit is cleared for service. A self-contained test bench is provided to test both unit types, and the test outcome is reported automatically as OK/NG on the basis of pre-fed deformation and load settings in the system.

2. Mechanical system

  • Independent benches: a separate bench is provided for ERU119 and for ERU120, each with a horizontal loading facility.
  • Custom fixture: a purpose-made fixture holds each unit, accommodating its profile so the unit is not damaged during testing.
  • LVDT displacement sensing: an LVDT with magnetic contact is provided for displacement measurement through the loading cycle.
  • In-situ calibrated load cells: both systems have load cells with an in-situ calibration facility; calibration runs automatically.

3. Loading system

Loading of the unit is applied sequentially. For both ERU120 and ERU119 the loading condition follows a pre-set schedule per hook configuration:

ConfigurationLoad per HookUltimate Load (Both Hooks)
ERU120 · 14″ hooks31,500 lbf63,000 lbf
ERU120 · 30″ hooks77,700 lbf38,850 lbf
ERU11934,600 lbf17,300 lbf

In every configuration, the mechanical fixture's pin-jointed structure is designed so the load is applied evenly across both hooks of the unit under test, rather than concentrating it on a single hook.

4. Key features

  • Ease of operation: sequential loading and automatic OK/NG scoring simplify the operator's role in each test cycle.
  • User friendliness: independent benches and unit-matched fixtures keep changeover between ERU types fast.
  • Compact structure: a self-contained footprint tests both unit types without additional floor-mounted equipment.
  • Approved instrumentation: the entire instrument and measuring instrumentation are approved by the competent authority.

5. Applications

  • Ejection release unit qualification: hook-proving and acceptance testing of ERU119 and ERU120 units.
  • Stores-release system validation: proving aircraft lock and release mechanisms before fleet clearance.
  • MRO and depot overhaul: re-proving units after maintenance, repair, or overhaul cycles.
  • Defence QA and production testing: batch acceptance to MIL-STD, IS, and ISO requirements, and production-line load proving for aerospace component manufacturers.
