    Overview

A dedicated trolley, not an improvised platform.

Every time a live missile canister is moved, personnel, assets and launch readiness are at stake. The module turns that movement into a controlled, repeatable missile transport operation.

The Missile Canister Transportation Module — built for canister missile logistics — sits at the frontline of ground safety and combat readiness. Its reinforced low-profile steel frame, dedicated support beds and guide pins hold up to four heavy canisters in a fixed, locked position, preventing even small shifts that could cause damage or unsafe conditions.

Heavy-duty steerable wheel assemblies and a detachable towbar let crews tow it with a vehicle or manoeuvre it with precision in cramped hangars and loading bays, instead of wrestling with improvised platforms and manpower-heavy push-pull methods.

Four canisters per trip. No hydraulics. No electronics.

With generous load ratings (about 1400 kg dynamic, 2000 kg static), a low centre of gravity and corrosion-protected construction, it is built for daily use in real bases and depots — and its length, width, guide-pin layout, locking type and tow interface can be tailored to specific missile families.

    Introduction

The Missile Canister Transportation Module is a ground handling trolley engineered for moving heavy missile canisters inside operational bases, ammunition depots and technical areas. Moving live or training missile loads is one of the most sensitive and tightly controlled activities in any air-defence environment: the payloads are heavy, high-value and safety-critical, and are often needed at short notice. Improvised platforms, generic trolleys and excessive manual handling increase risk, slow turnaround and strain ground crews.

The module carries up to four missile canisters on a single compact frame, reflecting a missile canister design that combines a rigid welded steel chassis, guided canister positioning, positive mechanical locking and high-capacity steerable wheels. It tracks straight when towed, manoeuvres precisely in congested hangars and loading bays, and keeps every canister secured on uneven flooring.

    Functional role

    • Movement of loaded or empty canisters between storage magazines, preparation / integration bays and aircraft or launcher loading areas.
    • Rapid repositioning during turnaround operations and readiness drills.
    • Organised staging of multiple canisters in hangars or technical buildings without consuming excessive floor space.
    • Use in missile squadrons, base repair depots and proof ranges where several heavy canisters are handled daily or weekly.

    Structural design and construction

    • Fabricated from MS square and rectangular hollow sections with generous wall thickness for rigidity and resistance to bending.
    • Low-profile, wide-span design keeps the centre of gravity low for stable towing and manoeuvring.
    • Integrated longitudinal support strips form a dedicated bed for each canister; guide pins and locating features are welded to the strips.
    • Eight lifting points / hooks built into the frame for controlled crane handling with appropriate slings and approved procedures.
    • All members cleaned, primed and finished in industrial-grade PU paint / powder coat for corrosion protection in semi-outdoor environments.

    Load capacity and compatibility

    • Canister capacity: up to 4 missile canisters on a single frame.
    • Dynamic load capacity (with wheels): approx. 1400 kg total during movement.
    • Static load capacity (without wheels): up to 2000 kg on the frame when properly supported.
    • Controlled clearances between canisters and frame / wheel assemblies prevent interference while allowing easy loading.
    • Suitable for typical cylindrical or square-section canisters used in air-defence and air-force applications; dimensions and interfaces can be adapted on request.

Mobility, wheel assemblies and tow system

    • Detachable adjustable wheel jacks: four heavy-duty assemblies, one at each corner, with solid or rubber-bonded wheels sized for rough concrete floors and expansion joints; height-adjustable for ground clearance and levelling.
    • 360° steerable castors: configurable wheel locking allows straight-line towing (e.g. rear wheels locked, front free) or free manoeuvring.
    • Towbar assembly: quick attachment and removal with double locking pins; can also be handled by two operators for short manual moves in confined spaces.

    Canister support, restraint and safety

    • Guided positioning: canisters sit on dedicated strips between guide pins that align them automatically, with clearances that avoid both play and jamming.
    • Positive mechanical locking: each canister location has a lock that prevents rolling, shifting or sliding during towing, with obvious locked / unlocked status.
    • Shock and contact protection: cushion padding under canister supports avoids metal-on-metal contact and damps small shocks and vibration; frame edges are finished to protect canister paint and hardware.
    • Lifting and handling: lifting points for certified slings and shackles; critical load paths sized with conservative safety factors and verified by load testing and inspection.
    • No hydraulics or electronics can fail unexpectedly — only robust mechanical interfaces.

    Operating concept

    1. Pre-use inspection: check frame, guide pins and locks for damage or corrosion; verify wheel assemblies, double pins and retaining clips; confirm towbar and towing eye condition.
    2. Positioning: move the empty trolley to the loading area by towbar; park on a level, solid surface and apply wheel locks as required.
    3. Loading: place each canister on its strip between the guide pins in the prescribed orientation, ensure full seating, engage each lock and visually confirm.
    4. Transport: configure wheel locking per the movement plan, connect the towbar with the approved pin and safety clip, and move at controlled speed avoiding sudden acceleration, braking or tight turns.
    5. Unloading and parking: park in the designated area, apply wheel locks, unlock and remove canisters per unit procedures, then inspect and clean the frame and wheels.

Do’s and don’ts, inspection schedules and maintenance guidelines are provided in the accompanying operation and maintenance manual.

    Key advantages

    • Purpose-built around real canister geometry, weight and safety requirements — not a generic trolley.
    • Higher throughput: four canisters per trip cut turnaround time in high-tempo operations.
    • Improved ground safety through guided positioning, positive locking and a low centre of gravity.
    • Reduced manpower fatigue: towing and precise steering replace manual pushing.
    • Fully mechanical and field-friendly, with no hydraulics, electronics or controls to troubleshoot.
    • Customisable length, width, guide-pin layout, locking type and tow interface for different missile families.
