CCTV Surveillance With Sensors: One System, Fourteen Parts, One View
A camera on its own watches. A sensor on its own detects. Neither one, alone, tells an operator which of forty video feeds to look at when a fence line is being disturbed at 3 a.m. The Neometrix Infrastructure Protection System (IPS) is built around closing that gap: a Perimeter Intrusion Detection System integrated with a security surveillance system, so that what the sensors detect and what the cameras see arrive as one picture.
What Is Inside the IPS
The system is built from fourteen integrated sub-systems: the Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) itself; PIDS software and sensors (vibration, proximity, beam and dual sensors); network IP cameras; common accessories; UV-protected outdoor cable; AC power supply; the IT system and its accessories; power and site accessories; network switches; a Video Management System (VMS); command and control software; and UPS backup.
Sensing That Feeds the Cameras
Sensing is handled by a sensor gateway with proximity, dual and vibration sensors, and the PIDS software processes their signals. The capabilities listed for the platform include multi sensor data fusion — combining inputs from different sensor types rather than treating each alarm in isolation — alongside alarms, motion detection, camera management, audio and remote client access.
Recording, Network and Management
Video lands in the recording and storage layer, with network, a central WAN streamer and backup supporting it. The common command and control software is the layer that brings every sensor and camera into a single operator view, which is the point of integrating the two halves in the first place.
What It Is Used to Secure
The system is configured per customer requirement and applies to any type of infrastructure, and to specific uses such as vehicle security, ANPR (automatic number plate recognition), road security, border security and biometric security.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why combine intrusion-detection sensors with CCTV instead of just installing more cameras?
Because cameras and sensors answer different questions. Sensors tell the system that something is happening at a particular place along the perimeter; cameras tell an operator what it is. With cameras only, someone has to be watching the right screen at the right moment. With sensors only, an alarm arrives with no picture to decide whether it is an animal, weather or a person. Integrating the two through common command and control software means a sensor event can bring the relevant camera view forward, which is what makes a large perimeter manageable by a small control-room team.
Is the system a fixed product or configured to the site?
It is configured. The IPS is delivered as fourteen sub-systems, and the sensors, cameras and command and control software are configured to the infrastructure and site requirements of each customer, including the choice of sensor types and the applications it must serve.
