Greenfuel-CNG Gas Flow Meter: One Flange, Two Gas Services

Wherever a gas-supply unit has to deliver a measured flow, someone has to measure it. The Neometrix Greenfuel-CNG Gas Flow Meter does it with one of the most established methods there is: an orifice plate in the line and a differential-pressure reading. It is an N2/CNG flow measurement system for test-bench and industrial gas-supply installations at 1 to 3 bar.

How an Orifice-Plate Meter Works

Gas flowing through the bore of an orifice plate accelerates and creates a pressure drop across it that is related to the flow rate. The method follows the general principle set out in ISO 5167 for pressure differential devices. In the Greenfuel meter:

1. The orifice plate for the gas being measured, N2 or CNG, is clamped between the flanges in the line.
2. Gas flow through the restriction creates the pressure drop.
3. Pressure tappings upstream and downstream feed a Siemens differential-pressure transmitter mounted on the manifold directly below the plate.
4. The signal is wired through an instrumentation enclosure, protected by a 10 Amp MCB on a 230 VAC single-phase supply.
5. A panel-mounted Universal DRO indicator converts the signal into a live flow reading.
6. To change service from N2 to CNG or back, the plate is unbolted and replaced with the one sized for the other gas.

What Is Included

– Orifice plates for CNG and for N2 (1-3 bar, up to 40 C, SS 316)
– Siemens differential-pressure transmitter
– Universal DRO process indicator, 230 VAC
– 10 Amp MCB
– Instrumentation enclosure, 380 x 600 x 210 mm, painted RAL 7035
– Flange mounting hardware for swapping plates
– Stainless impulse tubing and manifold

Low-Maintenance by Design

There are no moving parts in the orifice plate itself, which limits wear and helps keep calibration stable over time. SS 316 wetted parts give corrosion resistance across both gas services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does each gas need its own orifice plate?
Because the flow reading is derived from a pressure drop, and that relationship depends on the gas and the plate bore. A plate sized for N2 will not give a correct CNG reading, so the Greenfuel meter fits a dedicated plate for whichever gas the supply unit is delivering, and the plate is swapped on the same flange when the service changes.

Why use differential-pressure metering for gas flow?
It is one of the most established methods of flow measurement, with no moving parts in the measuring element, and it follows the principles in ISO 5167. For gas-supply units and test benches that need a dependable, repeatable readout rather than a large footprint, it gives a direct, live reading on a compact panel indicator.
