    What is tested

    What each railway test proves.

A brake that fails in the workshop is cheap; one that fails in service is not, so each test targets a specific failure.

Brake valve testingEach brake valve is connected to a controlled air supply and checked for charging, leakage, application, release and sensitivity. See the universal brake test bench, the DV test bench and the IRAB rig.
Locomotive brake equipmentLocomotive brake components are tested at high pressure with reporting to railway requirements. See the E-70 brake equipment test rig.
Coach and train-level brake testingThe whole brake system is tested on the vehicle or train, not only the valves. See the LHB coach brake bench and the wagon, coach and rake rigs.
Bogie testingA bogie is loaded to simulate the car body and measured before it returns under a coach. See the bogie test rig and turntable.
Body leak testingRolling stock is sprayed with simulated heavy rain to find micro-leaks before delivery. See the water leak testing system.
Wheel, track & locomotiveWheel-rail forces are measured, flanges are lubricated and locomotive fuel use is tested. See the measuring wheel, the wheel flange lubrication system and the fuel consumption system.

    Choosing

    Choosing railway test equipment.

    Five questions settle most selections.

Start with the valve or system and the railway standard — the rig follows.
    • What are you testing? A single valve, a panel-mounted brake system or a whole wagon or rake decides the rig.
    • Which valve types? List the valves and their makes, such as A9, distributor, relay or safety valves.
    • Which standard? Tell us whether you work to RDSO, COFMOW or Indian Railways requirements so the software and reports match.
    • What pressure and flow? Give the working pressures and the flow the valves need, for example 8–10 kg/cm² at up to 2,000 LPM.
    • Where will it run? Workshop layout and daily throughput set the bench size and automation level.

For background reading, see our guides to pressure testing machines and hydraulic test benches.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions.

Plain-language answers, drawn from the individual product pages.

Q · 01 What is a railway brake test rig?
A railway brake test rig is a bench that connects a brake valve or brake system to a controlled compressed-air supply and measures how it behaves: charging, leakage, brake application and release, and sensitivity. It is used in workshops to prove each valve before it goes back on a coach or wagon.
Q · 02 Which railway brake valves can you test?
The CCUBTB tests 27 valve types, the LHB panel bench tests 18 pneumatic valves including A9, distributor, relay and safety valves, and the IRAB rig tests 18 valve types. The DV test bench is dedicated to distributor valves, and the E-70 rig covers locomotive brake equipment.
Q · 03 Are your railway test benches RDSO compliant?
The DV test bench is RDSO-compliant, the LHB bench follows RDSO-approved KBI, Faiveley and Escorts designs, and the IRAB rig uses RDSO-compliant CCUBTB software. The E-70 rig produces COFMOW / Indian Railways compliant reporting.
Q · 04 Can you test a full train or wagon brake system?
Yes. Single wagon, single coach and full rake test rigs are available as computerised, SCADA-based systems that test the air brake at vehicle and train level. They are engineered to order, so tell us the rolling stock and the brake system.
Q · 05 What else do you supply for rolling stock and track?
Beyond brake testing, Neometrix builds bogie test rigs, a water leak testing system for rolling stock, wheel flange and rail lubrication systems, an instrumented measuring wheel, a locomotive fuel consumption system and re-railing jacks for derailment recovery.
Q · 06 Can the equipment be built for my workshop?
Yes. Many railway rigs are engineered to order. Send the valve or system, test pressures and flows, the standard you work to and the workshop layout, and we will propose a configuration.
Q · 07 What is a brake caliper test bench?
It is a bench that checks brake components automatically. The LHB coach test bench is a PC-based, PLC-controlled pneumatic test bench and brake caliper test bench, and the universal brake test bench tests 27 valve types for metro and railway.
Q · 08 What is the E70 brake system and how is it tested?
The E-70 is a locomotive pneumatic brake system. The E-70 brake equipment test rig tests E-70 brake valves and distributor valves with hydraulic pressure to 1,060 kg/cm² and pneumatic circuits to 10 kg/cm², running functional, leakage, endurance and dynamic-response tests with NIST-traceable gauges.
Q · 09 What is a DV test in railways?
A DV test checks a railway distributor valve (DV): charging, leakage, braking response and overcharge protection to RDSO standards. The DV test bench runs automatic and A9 manual test modes with a 2,400 LPM high-pressure air circuit.
Q · 10 How is locomotive fuel consumption measured?
The fuel consumption measurement system is a 150 L SS-304 tank weighing system on load cells for locomotive fuel consumption testing, with PLC / HMI control. It works as a fuel consumption meter by weighing the fuel used over the test.
