Overview

A pocket-portable pressure reference.

The Digital Barometer packages a laboratory-grade pressure sensor into a rugged, hand-held instrument — built for use wherever a precise, traceable pressure or altitude reading is needed outside a calibration lab.

The Digital Barometer uses a silicon resonant pressure sensor (DPS 8100) to produce a pressure reading in standard pressure units alongside pressure altitude. The sensor is housed in a stainless steel casing, driving a Comptek 10.1″ tablet mounted on an aluminium enclosure, running the dedicated TERPS app.

It can be used either as a hand-held indicator or set down as a table-top instrument, and communicates through a USB connector to extract logged data — reserved strictly for TERPS App-related transfer.

±0.1 mbar accuracy, a 10.1″ touchscreen readout, and IP65 protection — in a package light enough to carry to the point of measurement.

The instrument ships with a compatible charging adapter for its internal rechargeable battery and should be operated within its rated operating and maximum safe working pressure at all times.

02
Sensor & Operation

Handling rules that protect accuracy.

The sensor port and USB port each have a specific operating discipline — follow it and the instrument holds its rated accuracy in the field.

Sensor port

  • Keep the sensor port clean at all times; protect it against moisture, water, dirt, and dust.
  • Do not block the sensor with any object — this results in inaccurate readings.
  • Keep the sensor port away from continuous pressure-changing areas (AC units, fans, table fans) for the most accurate readings.
  • During measurement, place the device on a table or hold it steady in the correct orientation.
  • For hand-held use, hold the instrument so the hand never blocks the sensor port.

USB port

  • The USB port is reserved specifically for extracting exported data from the TERPS App — do not use it for any other activity.
  • Use the port only for App-related data transfer, never as a general charging or accessory port.
  • Close the USB port using its rubber cap whenever it is not in use.
  • The instrument's built-in tablet is dedicated to the TERPS App only.
  • The tablet's charging adapter should be used solely to charge the instrument.

In Depth

The complete technical read.

Engineering narrative for procurement teams and calibration officers evaluating the Digital Barometer.

1. Introduction

The Digital Barometer is a portable precision pressure-measurement instrument built around a silicon resonant pressure sensor (DPS 8100), producing a reading in standard pressure measurement units as well as pressure altitude. It integrates a Comptek 10.1″ tablet mounted on an aluminium enclosure, and can be used as a hand-held indicator or a table-top instrument. The instrument communicates through a USB connector to extract logged data, strictly for App-related data transfer.

2. Operating discipline

The instrument's in-built tablet should be used only for the TERPS App, and the supplied charging adapter is intended solely to charge the instrument. The device must be used within its operating and maximum safe working pressure conditions at all times.

  • Sensor port: keep it clean and protected from moisture, water, dirt, and dust. Do not block it with any object, and keep it away from continuous pressure-changing areas such as AC units or fans for accurate readings.
  • Placement: during pressure measurement, place the device on a table or hold it in the correct orientation; in hand-held use, ensure the hand does not block the sensor port.
  • USB port: use only for extracting exported TERPS App data; keep the rubber cap on when the port is not in use.

3. Applications

The Digital Barometer is used in the Indian Air Force for barometric pressure and pressure-altitude reference, leveraging its silicon resonant DPS 8100 sensor and TERPS-based readout. Its portability and accuracy also suit meteorological observation, aviation ground support, defence calibration labs, and industrial pressure instrument verification.

4. Key features

  • Easy to use: the instrument is straightforward to operate, hand-held or table-top.
  • User friendly: a clear touchscreen interface with details, measurements, and live readings.
  • Good power backup: a rechargeable 12,000 mAh lithium-ion polymer battery supports extended field sessions.
  • Light weight: compact and easy to transport between measurement points.
